The library is where you find parts and assemblies and add them to your design. In an assembly, the library opens as a panel on the right. This page covers finding, choosing and placing parts.

#Recent row

The part and assembly picker has a Recent row above All and opens on it, so the things you've used lately are always close at hand.

#Categories and search

Categories are round buttons instead of a drop-down list:

  • The first row has Recent and the main categories (for example, wood boards).
  • Each category's subcategories appear one row down, with a branch line connecting them to their parent.
  • A main category shows all of its subcategories together.
  • The magnifier at the end of the row opens search, which looks across all categories.

#Placing 0D parts and sub-assemblies

  1. Choose a part or sub-assembly in the library. A semi-transparent copy follows the pointer.
  2. Move the pointer over a part's surface to align it with that surface (its top facing out). Over empty space, it stands upright.
  3. Click to place it.

It snaps like any other tool: corner, midpoint, edge, control point and origin. On the corner of a surface, it also aligns with that surface.

Placing a part from the libraryCategories are round chips, with sub-categories one row lower. The picked hinge follows the mouse semi-transparent, lines up with the face of the part under it and snaps to the corner; Space turns it 90°, Ctrl+Tab moves to the next control point, and a click places it.

Before you click, these keys work (their buttons are also in the options bar at the top of the screen):

Key What it does
Space Rotate 90°
Tab Rotate the other way
Ctrl + Tab Next control point for entry
Shift + M Mirror

#Drag and drop

Drag a part from the library and drop it in the viewport. It behaves the same way, and dropping places it.

#Drawing boards

Choosing a board (2D part) starts drawing. The default tool is the rectangle, and the options bar at the top of the screen offers the other tools. See Boards and edge banding.

#Part picker for shapes

To make a part from a free shape, or to replace a part, click the Part or Replace badge. A window opens with small cards in three columns. If you've used anything recently, it opens on Recent; otherwise, it opens on the first category.

#Face or path

Where you clicked The window opens on
The face of a closed shape Face: board or pocket
The edge of a shape Path: profile or groove

Use the two buttons at the top of the window to switch to the other one.

#Pocket and groove tile

At the top of the same window is a bold purple tile with the name of the part the shape sits on, such as On MDF 16. One click creates the pocket (or groove) on that part. If the shape isn't on any part, the tile is disabled. See Holes, grooves and pockets.
