Atrium has two kinds of writing. Text is part of the model: you write it on a part's surface, and it can become a pocket or a groove. Labels and callouts are notes: they show on the model but don't cut anything.
#Text
#Writing text
- Click the Text button in the toolbar.
- Click a part's surface or the ground, and type right there.
- Enter starts a new line. Press Esc or click outside the text to finish.
Empty text creates nothing.
#Text options
The options are in the bar below the toolbar, both while you type and when a text object is selected:
- Font
- Height (the height of the letter H, or alef)
- Bold and italic, if the font has them
- Alignment
- Color
- Letter spacing and line spacing
Your last choices carry over to the next text.
#Fonts
The font list includes every Windows font, and each name is shown in its own typeface.
- Star a font to mark it as a favorite. Favorite and recent fonts appear at the top of the list.
- Search to find a font.
- A color next to each name shows how well that font cuts at the current height with a 3 mm cutter:
| Color |
Meaning |
| Green |
Good for pockets |
| Yellow |
Has thin spots |
| Red |
Not suitable for cutting |
| Single-line |
Grooves only |
#Selected text
When text is selected, you get these badges:
| Badge |
What it does |
| Pocket |
Clears out the letters and keeps the islands (closed areas inside letters, like the center of an O). |
| Groove |
Cuts a groove around the letters. |
| To shape |
Converts the letters to free shapes. They're no longer text. |
- Double-click text to edit it in place.
- Text has one control point. Drag it to move the whole text.
#After pocketing or grooving
After you turn text into a pocket or groove, change the text, font and size in the design tree. The pocket or groove is rebuilt to match. The font button in the design tree is the same font button as in the top bar; click it to open the font list.
#Labels
A label is a short note pinned to a point on the model.
#Placing a label
- Click the Label button in the assembly toolbar (next to Dimension).
- Click a point: a vertex, an edge, a part's surface or the ground.
- Type your text and press Enter. Esc cancels.
Clicking anywhere else in the viewport also finishes the label with the text you've typed.
#How labels behave
- Always visible: The label's pin and card show even behind a solid, and they stay the same size on screen.
- This assembly only: A label shows only in its own assembly's editor. The parent assembly doesn't see it.
- Notes only: A label never becomes a pocket or groove and doesn't cut anything.
- Attached to the part: A label placed on a part moves and rotates with that part.
#Color and icon
These options appear in the bar below the toolbar while you place a label or when a label is selected:
- 5 colors
- Note, Info, Warning, Confirm and Size icons
Your last choice carries over to the next label.
#Label card
- Drag the card to a better spot. The pin stays where it is.
- Hover over the card to highlight its part and show the part's name in faint text.
- Double-click the card to edit its text in place.
#Selected label
- Badges: Move (click the new point), Edit, Copy and Delete.
- Delete also removes the label.
- Each label also has a row in the design tree, where you can edit its text.
#Callouts
A callout is a numbered pin with a colored bubble whose tail points to the pin.
- The bar below the toolbar starts with a Label | Callout choice.
- Callouts are numbered in the order you create them. If you delete one, the rest are renumbered in sequence.
- Everything a label can do, a callout can do too: color, dragging the bubble, badges and the design tree row. Callouts just don't have icons.
- The toolbar button creates the type you used last.
- To turn a selected label into a callout, or the reverse, use the same Label | Callout buttons.
