Numbers, units and formulas
Typing numbers, arithmetic, units and formulas in number fields, Persian digits, committing values and errors, and editable numbers on the model.
Wherever Atrium asks for a number, whether in the design tree and cards, in a number box, or mid-drawing, you can type more than a plain number: arithmetic, units and, in many places, formulas. All number fields behave the same way.
What you can type
| Entry | Example |
|---|---|
| Number | 1200 |
| Simple arithmetic | 1200-750 |
| Number with a unit | 12 cm, 1m+20cm, ۱۲ سانت (Persian for "12 cm") |
| Formula (wherever formulas are accepted) | Start with = |
You can add a unit to any number. Internally, Atrium stores everything in millimeters, so the display unit has no effect on the result, for example when you copy and paste between editors.
Persian digits
You can also type Persian digits: ۱۲۰۰-۷۵۰ works just like 1200-750.
٫is the decimal separator; for example,۱۲٫۵is 12.5.،(the Persian comma) separates coordinates; for example,۱۰۰،۵۰is100,50.
Commit and cancel
- A value is committed when you press Enter or leave the field, not with each keystroke.
- Esc restores the previous value.
- ↑ and ↓ increase and decrease the value by one.
Number box
Clicking a gizmo arrow or ring, a handle, or a distance to an edge opens a number box.
- Enter or Apply: commit
- Esc: close without changes
The sign rule for numbers on the gizmo (for example, -30) is on the Gizmo page.
Numbers and formulas
- A plain number is shown in a lighter style.
- A formula is shown in bold, with an "ƒ" marker and its result.
Errors
If what you typed isn't valid, the field gets a red frame and a short sentence explains the problem. The previous value stays in place.
Numbers on the model
Some numbers appear directly on the model:
| Appearance | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Purple frame; the pointer turns into a hand over it | Editable: click it and type a new value. | Distance from a hole to an edge; rectangle width and length |
| No frame | Display only | The live value while you draw |
Rectangle width and length, distance to an edge, side moves and spline handles accept plain numbers only for now. If you need a formula, enter it in the design tree.
